Illuminae

Okay. Have you ever read a book and just fell in love with it? Because this was what happened with Illuminae. I can’t even begin to describe how much I love this book. Let me start by saying that I actually went to the book launch for Obsidio before I’d even so much as looked at Illuminae. So I heard things then that were possibly spoilers, but I had no idea! But I knew after that, that I HAD to read Illuminae.

I’m not going to post the whole blurb here – just my fave bit: This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do. This afternoon, her planet was invaded. Terribly, these sentences crack me up. But it’s a decent explanation of the book!

So I’m not a huge sci-fi reader, but knew Illuminae had some great reviews. And once I started, I could not put it down. The completely unique writing style, through emails, text chats, dossiers, schematics – I fell in love with it. Given, it could be difficult to read at nighttime while you’re lying down in bed and have to turn the book around, but it’s totally worth it! I have never read a book as unique as this one and Illuminae has quickly jumped to the top of my recommending list for everyone and anyone!

I loved Kady and Ezra. I loved their relationship and I loved how they both rose to the occasion of needing to survive! Honestly, I would be dead if I was ever in a situation like they were in. Absolutely dead. And I can’t forget to mention AIDAN… Am I not merciful? That will stay with me forever. This book outlines exactly why I’m terrified of AI and what the future of AI could bring. But at the same time as being a psychotic artificial intelligence, AIDAN is such a great character and gives an amazing depth to the narrative.

Jay and Amie have done an absolutely stellar job with this book. I can’t give enough praise where it’s concerned. Their team writing is absolutely spectacular. They have dreamt up a story so individual and so unique that I can’t imagine anyone not being impressed by it. This story literally kept me up at night with its plot twists and character developments! I give it a very very very well deserved ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of five stars!
