I would be dead-set lying if I said I knew which books I would pick for this weeks Top 3 Thursday – because I had absolutely zero idea. But after sitting here for maybe half an hour thinking about all the books I’ve ever read, I think I have a semi-decent list! Oh, and remember to go follow Mel – the amazing one who created this meme!
- The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants – Ann Brashares
This book was my teen life! I loved these girls and desperately wanted my own friends who all had exciting summer plans so that we could send letters and an amazing pair of jeans to each other! Sadly, there’s no physical way my friends and I could fit in the same pair of jeans, so my dreams were shot from the beginning. BUT honestly, this book was sunshine and tears and hugs all rolled into one. There were times when I related with each girl, and there were times when I thought each girl was an idiot – but tats just a part of being a teenager right?
2. Fangirl – Rainbow Rowell
We should just expect than Fangirl ends up on my lists now. I adored this book. I’ve never related so much to a character in my whole life. Cath was such a beautiful person, and her nerdiness and her social awkwardness just made her all the more believable. I loved watching her grow into her confidence – especially with Levi – and realised that just because you’re a nerd doesn’t mean someone wont love you for all your nerdiness!
3. The Hunger Games – Suzanne Collins
This is probably an odd choice to include, because its not your typical ‘coming of age’ book. But I really loved this series, and Katniss does some AMAZING growing up throughout the books – as do all the characters really! Prim in book one compared to Prim in book three? What a change! Watching her go from a scared young girl to a confident, functioning member of their society was fantastic! And back to Katniss – a 16 year old who was just trying to survive becomes the leader of a revolution. Inspiring. But hopefully I don’t have to lead a revolution at any point soon.
Well there we go my loves! Top 3 Thursday is done for another week! What are some of your fave ‘coming of age’ books? If you have any fantasy ones – hit me up! Well hit me up anyway…
Happy readings
