This book by Tracy Banghart sounded amazing. I read the synopsis to my family and even my 19 year old brother said it sounded awesome! And this beginning sounds like I’m going to say it was terrible. But it wasn’t! I really enjoyed this book! Now I should say that I’m notoriously bad at ‘picking’ surprises or endings. So just keep that in mind.
But Nomi and Serina took me by surprise! You’ll understand even more if you’ve read it! But everything they were was unexpected. And I loved that about them. I LOVED that the book focused so much on women and the power women hold! I thought that whole aspect – especially on the island – was done so well! Women are important and heaven help the person who says they’re not!
The island setting – and the city for that matter – were believable. I completely could see the world that Banghart created existing at some point in our past – or our future, scarily enough. I think that’s one of my favorite things about fantasy book though – believing in the world so much that I could see it coming to pass!
I did think going into this book, that it was a stand-alone. So you can image my panic with maybe 30 pages left and pretty much zero strings being tied up. But then I found out there’s more! Which is exciting because yay more! And not exciting because boooo I need to wait!
