Top 3 Thursday – Books You’re Scared to Start

Welcome to Top 3 Thursday! As always, here’s a reminder to go check our faithful founders page, over at A Cosy Reading Blog to see how you can join in Top 3 Thursday! Now today’s topic is books I’m scared to start. Ahhhhhh – I feel like this should have been easier than it was! I’ve realised I get scared of starting books when there’s 1. A lot of hype around them or 2. I’m really excited and don’t want a series to be over. So here we go!

  1. Capturing the Devil – Kerri Maniscalco

This is the FINAL book in the the Stalking Jack the Ripper series and I want so desperately to know how it ends…. but I’m also so terrified of what could happen in this book. Like the stakes are going to be so high, and I just want to know! But don’t at the same time.

2. Finale – Stephanie Garber

Again, I’ve picked the final book in a series. Legendary left me on such a cliffhanger though! However, if there’s anything I’ve learned from Stephanie’s previous books, its that anything and everything in the land of Caraval can change in an instant and my poor heart is not ready for these changes.

3. Aurora Rising – Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufmann

I adore Jay and Amie and absolutely LOVED their Illuminae series. And I’m just worried that Aurora Rising wont live up to the mental hype I have for it. I’m trying to calm this hype down, so I’ll be pleasantly surprised and completely love Aurora Rising as well… Wish me luck!

Which books are you scared about starting? And why do you get scared starting books? Any different reasons to mine?

Happy readings loves,

B x

  1. I totally feel you re: Aurora! but I’ve already been there in the sense that I was excited for and let down by Obsidio (it wasn’t terrible, I just hated Rhys and a few plot elements bummed me out). so I’m cautiously optimistic for Aurora, but I still desperately need it!

    1. Oh no! I’m so sorry Obsidio was a disappointment! It wasn’t my fave, but I still enjoyed it! I heard from someone recently that they liked Aurora more than Illuminae – which blew my mind! So now I’m even more hyped and need to calm down again haha

      1. well, comparatively it was a disappointment as Illuminae was a 5-star read, Gemina was 4-stars (really good, but basically the exact same plot, lol) and then Obsidio was 3-stars. so it wasn’t TERRIBLE, just not at the heights of awesomeness I expected!

omg, WOW, that is a bold claim to make, I’m even more desperate to get hold of Aurora now!
