It’s official. Mel over at A Cosy Reading Blog is trying to kill me. After last week’s Top 3 Thursday topic, and now this one? You know I barely read contemporaries! And the ones I do are usually because you’ve recommended them! So apologies if my list and Mel’s lists are the same! Also apologies if the books here have been mentioned NUMEROUS times before in my T3T posts. Which I know at least one of them has!
- Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
Fangirl was suggested to me by Mel, and it was one of the first contemporaries I remember reading and actually LOVING straight away. I had no idea contemporaries could be this cute or wonderful or REAL! I think I loved it so much because I related to Cath so strongly. Her anxiety resonated with me – being scared of going to a new lunchroom because you weren’t sure how it all worked? That is me to a tee! This book just made me feel like someone out there got it!
2. Geekerella by Ashley Poston
This book was the call out to nerd culture that I didn’t know I needed until I read it. Who knew that writing a Cinderella retelling set with a convention as the main premise would be so enchanting? I didn’t! But enchanted I was – I finished this book in one day! The cute, feel-good read that will just make you happy!
3. Emergency Contact by Mary H.K. Choi
Another Mel recommendation (not as instant a favourite as Fangirl, but still cute) – just made me fall in love and wish I had my own emergency contact. The characters were just super real and believable, their situations making me cry and laugh. The format was also interesting, with some of the book written as text messages.
So there were have my top 3 contemporaries. Again, my apologies for the amount of times Fangirl has ended up on my lists! Hopefully if you haven’t yet read it, my constant reminding will help you make the decision to read it!
Hit me up with some more cute and fuzzy contemporaries! Because now I’m apparently in the market for them! What are some of your faves?
Have a great week loves!
Happy reading,
-B x
