Audiobook: The Illuminae Files by Amie Kaufman’s and Jay Kristoff

If you’ve followed me for a while either here or on Instagram, you will know f my undying love for Illuminae Files series. It’s one of my all time favourite book series. I love everything Jay and Amie did with it. And I didn’t think I could possibly love it more.

But I was wrong. So wrong. So very wrong.

I listened to the audiobooks. Now these aren’t just any audiobooks. Most audiobooks have one, maybe two narrators. Oh no, the illuminae Files has something close to 26 narrators? Plus an entire soundtrack of music and noises that make the book come to life. It’s almost like a radio play of old times.

These were also the first audiobooks I ever listened to. So perhaps I’ve now ruined audiobooks for myself 🤷🏻‍♀️ Because I loved the books so much I was naturally a little worried about if the audiobook could live up to the AMAZING hype of the actual books. But it did that and more. There were moments that, while touching and moving in the book, made me absolutely sob in the audiobook. All the things you’d read and imagined came to brilliant life. The narrators they picked for the characters sounded just like they did in my head. These voice artists are so talented, and the audiobook would not have been as successful without their wonderful talents.

Even though they are different to regular audiobooks (superior to regular audiobooks), the Illuminae Files audiobooks have converted me to audiobooks now. I love being able to ‘read’ on the bus, without the worry that I might get travel sick or miss my stop. I love being able to ‘read’ as I drive home. ‘Read’ while I fall asleep – to be honest I did that with normal books too, but less books are harmed this way 🥰

If you’re on the fence about audiobooks, or you’re looking for a new one to try, please give the Illuminae Files a go. I can promise you that you won’t regret it!

Happy readings – listenings!
